British Airways First Class: The Complete UK Guide (2026)

The Concorde Room, the First Wing, and a fourteen-seat cabin where the crew know your name. BA First is not the most extravagant first class in the sky — but from the UK, the ground experience is unmatched, and the new A380 First Suite has closed much of the gap.

Is BA First Worth It Over Club Suite?

This is the question most people are actually asking, so it goes first.

BA First typically costs 40 to 90 per cent more than Club Suite on the same route. What that premium buys, honestly assessed:

The honest verdict: if you are flying from Heathrow T5 and value your time on the ground, BA First is one of the better first class propositions in the world — the First Wing and Concorde Room genuinely change the day. If you are connecting through an outstation, or if the flight is under eight hours, the premium over Club Suite is harder to justify. And if raw onboard luxury is what you want, Emirates and Singapore First are more lavish.

The New First Suite

BA's newest First, appearing on refitted A380s and A350s, is the most significant change to the cabin in over a decade. It adds a full-height sliding door, a larger screen, considerably more storage including a dedicated wardrobe area, and a redesigned lighting scheme.

The suite feels genuinely enclosed rather than merely private. Combined with a cabin of eight to fourteen passengers, the sense of space is the point — this is somewhere you can work, eat and sleep without ever feeling observed.

The older First cabin

Found on 777s and unrefitted A380s. No door, but a high shell and a wide, comfortable seat — in raw width it is competitive with the new suite. Bedding is excellent and the service is identical.

It is a good product that simply looks dated next to competitors with doors. Unlike the Club World situation, there is no bad outcome here — both First cabins are strong.

Which Aircraft Has Which First

Note: BA First is not fitted to every long-haul aircraft. The 787 fleet has no First cabin at all, and neither do most A350s outside the refitted group. First is concentrated on premium routes — New York, Los Angeles, Singapore, Dubai, Johannesburg. Check the route carries First before planning around it.

Food and Dine on Demand

First operates dine on demand — you eat when you want, ordering à la carte from a menu available throughout the flight. This is a genuine upgrade over Club World, which has no equivalent.

The menu is more ambitious than Club World's and the presentation is proper china and linen. Where BA First shines is the small cabin: with eight to fourteen passengers, running out of a popular main is far less likely, and crew can accommodate off-menu requests in a way that is impossible with fifty passengers.

Afternoon tea in First is done properly on daytime services, and the pre-landing service on overnight flights is a full breakfast rather than a token tray.

Champagne in First is a step up from Club World, typically a prestige cuvée. The wine list is selected by a Master of Wine and rotates seasonally, and crew will generally open something specific on request if it is loaded.

Amenities, Sleep and Service

Bedding is the best BA offers — a proper mattress topper, White Company duvet and pillows, and crew will make the bed for you while you change. Pyjamas are provided, which they are not in Club World.

Amenity kits in First are substantially better than the Club World equivalent, with fuller-size skincare products.

The defining feature is the crew ratio. A cabin of eight to fourteen passengers with dedicated crew produces a level of attention that no business class cabin can match regardless of seat quality. BA crews are variable in Club World; in First that variability largely disappears, because the numbers make consistent attentiveness achievable.

Wi-Fi remains paid, which is a genuine irritation at this price point and a clear miss versus Qatar and Singapore.

The First Wing and the Concorde Room

This is where BA First justifies itself, and it is genuinely world-class.

The First Wing at Heathrow T5 is a private entrance with dedicated check-in desks and its own security channel, leading directly into the lounge. There is no walk through the main terminal, no queue, no retail concourse. From dropping your car to sitting down with a glass of champagne can take under ten minutes.

The Concorde Room is BA's flagship lounge, reserved for First passengers and Premier members. It offers à la carte dining ordered from a menu and cooked to order, a dedicated bar, private cabanas with day beds and showers that can be booked in advance, and a terrace overlooking the apron.

It is markedly quieter than the Galleries Club lounges, which get very busy at peak times. The cabanas are the thing to book — request one when you arrive.

There is also a Concorde Room at New York JFK, and First passengers use Galleries First lounges at other stations where available. Arrivals lounges with showers and breakfast are available at Heathrow.

Baggage Allowance

Booking BA First with Avios

First is where Avios can deliver exceptional value, but the surcharges matter enormously.

• Reward Flight Saver caps the cash component by charging more Avios. On First redemptions from the UK this often makes the difference between poor and good value.
• Two First award seats are typically released per flight at schedule opening, 355 days out. Book the moment they appear.
• Upgrade with Avios from a paid Club World ticket is often better value than redeeming outright, when availability allows.
• Avios pool with Qatar Privilege Club, so a combined balance can reach a First redemption faster.

Always compare the total Avios-plus-cash figure against a discounted commercial First fare. On some routes the commercial fare is genuinely competitive, particularly in low season.

Routes with First

BA First operates on premium routes from Heathrow T5 — New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Johannesburg and Tokyo among others.

North America is the core. The transatlantic First proposition is strong precisely because the flight is short enough that the ground experience is a large share of the total journey — the First Wing matters more on a seven-hour flight than a fourteen-hour one.

First is not offered on the 787 fleet, so several long-haul routes have Club Suite as the top cabin. Verify before planning.

BA First vs Emirates, Singapore and Qatar

Short version: Emirates First is more extravagant, Singapore Suites more spacious. BA First wins on the ground in the UK and on nonstop routings, and it is the only one of the three you can book with Avios. For a transatlantic trip departing Heathrow, BA First is arguably the best use of the money. For a once-in-a-lifetime flight, Emirates or Singapore deliver more theatre.
